Lauren serves as the director of Mission and Sourcing for KBFF
I have had several encounters with the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. In January 1999, while on break from college, I took the opportunity to shadow doctors in the general medical ward and in clinics specializing in cardiology, neurology and endocrinology. The memories from that internship are endless. A few facts that I could not ignore was the lack of funding available for medical resources and the frustration experienced by both the medical staff and patients when funding was either limited or nonexistent.
I was once again faced with the reality of this situation in August 2005 while visiting an ailing relative at the hospital. There is no doubt in my mind that Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital needs as much funding support as possible and hence my reason for being a part of the KBFF team.
I want to contribute my fundraising efforts to assist patients who cannot afford the cost of their medical care and to also alleviate the stress experienced by the medical team at the hospital.
Lauren completed her secondary education at Holy Child School, Cape Coast in 1996 and SOS HGIC in Tema, Ghana in 1998. She received her degree from Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, MA in 2001 with a major in Neuroscience and Behavior and a minor in Complex Organizations. She has interests in music and dance from different regions of the world.
